Every prepper needs a piece of land to bug out to. If you happen to be a Veteran, why not buy some Veteran Land through your State Veteran Benefits? I started researching for this post, assuming that all of our fifty states had Veteran Land programs. I planned to list each state and a brief overview of the benefits that they offered. But what I found was that only two states, Alaska and Texas have specific land buying programs.
This is what Alaska offers their Veterans:
The Alaska Veterans Land Discount Program allows certain veterans a 25% discount on the purchase price of state residential/recreational land. The discount may be used only once during the veteran’s lifetime and may not be used in conjunction with the veterans preference. Fact sheet (.pdf)
This is what Texas offers their Veterans:
The Texas Veteran Land Board (VLB) provides financing on tracts up to $125,000 with a minimum 5% down-payment and a fixed-rate 30-year loan term at (currently) 6.75% interest rate. A $325 appraisal and contract service fee is due at the time of application. There is no pre-payment penalty.
So what do all of the other states do? Nothing that I can find. If you live in any of the other 48 states, and know that I am incorrect about your state, please let me know where I can get information and I will gladly update this post.
